This category encompasses many different
village groups, some of which are still thriving such as the Scouts
and Guides and the British Legion. Others such as the Temperance Association
and the Blooming Rose Lodge of Oddfellows are long gone. Although
the sporting clubs, societies and the Quorn Hunt figure prominently,
the charities are particularly interesting as they are in the main
ancient organisations, such as the Townlands Charity (a major landowner
in past times), with a history going back hundreds of years.
