Opening of Quorn Football Club new ground, 1960

QUORN F.C. - NEW GROUND AND PAVILION
Quorn Football club reached a milestone in their history on Thursday of last week when they held a short ceremony and football match to commemorate the opening of their new ground and pavilion.
The official opening was performed by the president, Mr. Marius Wright, who described the project as a " momentous event " for the club. He said the ground was now owned by the club and the pavilion would cost over £1,000 when completed.
Mr. Wright paid tribute to the members for their " Herculean work " on the ground and congratulated the chairman, Mr. Frank Baylis, and the committee " for their courage and enterprise in creating the project." He mentioned the services of the former president, Mr. W. F. Bent Beardsley and made special reference to work put in by their hard-working secretary-treasurer, Jack Field.
Mr. Field thanked Mr. Wright for performing the opening ceremony. H thanked everyone who had given assistance in the project and mentioned that there was still “a lot of work to be done."
Mr. Don Stirling, chairman of Quorn Parish Council and a founder member of the club in 1924, congratulated the football club on their fine effort. He said the pavilion and ground would add to the amenities of the village.
Mr. Len Sutton, a member for 25 years, said that the football club was in a sorry plight 18 months ago and had it not been for a handful of hard-working officials the club would not have had a ground or pavilion. He said he hoped the local people would now rally round and give the club all their support.
The ceremony was attended by several parish councillors and representatives of Leicestershire football organisations.

1 - thought to be Tommy Lakin, who lived on Rothley Road, Mountsorrel and was believed to be the club's trainer.
