A Quorn football team, circa 1919

This photograph is a football team taken in Quorn. The player on the back row, (second from the right) is George Charles Turlington, known as Charles, great uncle to Maurice Turlington who shared this photograph. Charles was born in Quorn in 1899 and the family lived on Leicester Road.

Charles worked at M. Wright and Sons elastic webbing factory, as did his father and siblings. The men are all in matching kit, so are obviously an established team and it is thought that this may be a Quorn Mill’s football team. From the clothes, the photograph was first thought to be pre WW1 (ie 1914), but with Charles being born in 1899, it is almost certainly post WW1 (ie after 1918).
