Football – Quorn match win! 1952
Loughborough Monitor, Friday 17th October 1952
Quorn Recover From Shock
Quorn 2, Holwell Works 1
There was little to choose between the two teams, although Quorn just deserved the right to entertain Syston in the third round on Nov. 15.
There was a sensation in the opening minute when a long centre from Garner out on the wing curled in under the bar to put Holwell ahead, and for a while the visitors held the. initiative. Gilson and Exton in particular testing Jones.
Once Quorn found their feet. Jardine was kept busy, and Mitchell saw a good effort hit the upright. Another fine header by the same player hit the bar. Riley pounced on the rebound and netted. Len Sutton, in the next raid, extended Jardine, and from the resulting corner Riley again picked a spot and put his team ahead with only minutes left for half time. Play deteriorated in the second period. and although Holwell made determined efforts to save the game K. Sutton, Genry and Sharpe repeatedly foiled their efforts, while Quorn's attacks were always foiled in the area.
