John Alfred Le Mesurier Hayward, Quorn Place, 1857 to 1922

In the chancel of St Bartholomew’s Church, in front of the altar, is a brass hanging lamp that once held a candle. In tiny lettering is an inscription saying: “IN MEMORIAM J. A. LE M. HAYWARD 1922”

The attached short article explains who John Alfred Le Mesurier Hayward was, where he lived and other details of his life and family. And yes – he was distantly related to John Le Mesurier of Dad’s Army fame!
