W E Cooke was a local artist who lived at Brook House (where Hall Leys now is). He married Alice Moore from Quorn in the first quarter of 1872. The 1891 census shows them living in Brook House with their eleven children.

The location of this picture is unidentified, but could possibly be part of Meeting Street.
