Loughborough Road c1906

Loughborough Road looking toward the village centre. The photograph illustrates the changing nature of the village with the newly built villas on the left and the neatly kept pavement and rural, unmade country lane on the right-hand side.

The houses on the left-hand side of the road are, left to right, Forest View (no 51, with gable), Beacon Villa, numbers 49 and 47 (also with gables). The house on the right, opposite the entrance to Barrow Road, is 16 Loughborough Road, which was then called Ferndale and was built by the Fewkes who were local builders.

See also Artefact 66 to see how the street had changed within a short time.
