Westfield House

Situated on Loughborough Road, near to the junction with Woodhouse Road, the house is named after the ancient field area of the enclosures. Known occupiers were William White Good, John Hawkes Woodward and the Herbert family. All the land between Westfield House and the Pinfold (opposite Sarson Street) was used as allotments.

The following is an excerpt from the memoirs of Thomas Dexter recalling Quorn in the 1890s:

"We now come along past the end of Woodhouse Lane and a few yards on come to "Westfield", known today as "Westwood", the residence of Mr and Mrs Hawkes Woodward and their son Hubert Woodward who later went onto the stage and acquired some success. Mr Woodward did not take an active part in village affairs but seemed to be content to potter about on his farm which was in Woodhouse and was managed by a bailiff, Mr Ingleby. On the other hand Mrs Woodward was interested in church work and a certain benevolence such as providing on a rota with other ladies, beef tea for invalids. She was very tall and slim while Mr Woodward was what one might describe as "tubby". Mrs Woodward was the sister of Mr J D Cradock of whom more later. She was a horsewoman and frequently rode to hounds with the Quorn Hunt."
