Bowls Club Dinner 1957

Loughborough Monitor - 22nd November 1957

A happy evening was spent by member of the Quorn Mills Park Bowling Club, who held their annual dinner at the Bull's Head Hotel, Quorn, last Friday. The honoured guests being Mrs Marius Wright and Mr Michael Wright, presidents of the women's and men's sections.

In reply to Col. W S N Toller's toast to "The President", Mr Michael Wright laid stress on the importance of increasing membership and was most hopeful that more employees of the Mills would in future take advantage of the wonderful amenities offered by the club.

In proposing the toast of "Success to the Quorn Mills Park Bowling Club", the club's "newest" member, Mr Jack Barnett of Loughborough, in a witty speech referred to the happy combination of friends that existed throughout the club and paid tribute to the beauty of the park, its ideal position in the village and the perfection of its green. Replying for the club, the popular hon. secretary, Mr Sam Hallam, thanked members for their support.

Awards for the past season were presented to winners by their respective presidents, special congratulations being accorded to Mr Gordon Pick, who in spite of an 8 handicap, won the Sydney Wright Cup for the second successive year. Other winners were: Ladies Rose Bowl: Mrs D Gamble; Ladies Silver Cup: Mrs H Orchard; the Mary Hawes Cup: Mrs C Gamble; the Landford Deacon Cup: Mr L Lewin; the Michael Wright Cup (rink), Mrs D Gamble; Mrs G Pick, Mr L Lewin, Mr H Hanford.

A bouquet was presented by Mrs P Heafford to Mrs Marius Wright.

The toastmaster was Mr W Heap and entertainment was provided by Mr R Beswick (pianoforte) and Mr F Shoulder (baritone)
