Ann Morris's letter 1838
This letter and its transcription has been sent to the village museum website by Belinda Wilkins who is Ann Morris's great, great, great granddaughter. The letter was written by her step-mother Mary to Ann who was sent away to Mrs Deacon, a private school in Quorn, to improve her health.
The letter reads:
It gives us great pleasure, my dear Ann to hear you are so well and fond of School and I think amongst so many lively companions you must be very happy. I can imagine how you must be would all enjoy yourselves on the 5th Novr. We were quite entertained with the account Mr Archer gave us of that day. The holidays will soon be here which you will spend with your Aunt in Nottingham. I have no doubt you will have much pleasure in going as the time is so long since you saw her and your little cousin. Your father and I intend going to Nottm at Christmas, when I trust my dear we shall find you improved, but there is no question about that as I know you are persevering and anxious to learn. I do not hear anything about your cough, therefore conclude the country air has been of service. Sammy is quite well and very good boy, he was quite disappointed that you did not answer his letter. (Sammy was Ann's brother and 5 years old). I have sent you some biscuits knowing that anything from home is acceptable. Your father unites with me in kindest love, now my dear girl I must say goodbye.
