US soldier Richard A Vargas, Camp Quorn 1944

Richard A Vargas standing on H Company street in Camp Quorn, England getting ready for Normandy, where on June 7th he was killed in action in Ste Mere Eglise. He was crossing a road with his buddies Cruise and Kilroy when hit by a barrage shell as he and Cruise hit the ground. They had been ordered to move to a new position when they were under fire. His body protected Cruise from injury. Kilroy went for a medic while Cruise tried to treat his wounds to no avail. One of several from the first platoon to die that day.
