Letter from Quorn Rawlins School - 1987

This letter is relatively recent in the museum’s terms, but might make you smile. It was given to every pupil leaving Rawlins in 1987 to pass on to either potential employers or colleges. This copy was given to Annalise Cowlishaw, who happily survived post education life!

It basically says “Oops, we're sorry, we were on strike a bit and pupils got a rough deal.” Would such a letter be sent today? Perhaps not!

The exact text says:
To Employers and those accepting students onto further education courses.

EFFECT OF INDUCTRIAL ACTION ON STUDENTS ATTENDING RAWLINS COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Throughout the course of 85/6 students at Quorn Rawlins Community College were persistently affected by industrial action. There mock examinations were also very limited in scope.

In virtually every case students’ grades are likely to be lower than they would otherwise have been.
