Quorn Home Guard Bulletin no 18, June 1942, Second Anniversary
On 14th May 1940, Anthony Eden, the Secretary for War created the Local Defence Volunteers, later known as the Home Guard.
The Home Guard magazine below is entitled Quorn and it was initially thought that it referred to Quorn village Home Guard, but this was No. 13 Platoon of the Charnwood Battalion.
This magazine was published by the 6th (Quorn) Battalion, which was based in Melton Mowbray and named after the hunt, so it was not actually associated with our village.

It includes memories of the previous two years and is written with humour.
The magazine belonged to Eric George Worth, whose son Jeff has kindly donated it to Quorn Village On-line Museum. Eric joined the 'Quorn' Home Guard in 1941 and remained in 6th (Quorn) Battalion in Melton until he was called up in 1943. Eric never lived in Quorn, but he went to nearby Loughborough Grammar School.
