Quorn Home Guard – Certificate from the King

Eric George Worth joined the 'Quorn' Home Guard in 1941 and remained in the platoon until he was called up in 1943. Eric never lived in Quorn, but he went to Loughborough Grammar School.
It was initially thought that he joined the Quorn village Home Guard, but the two bulletins in Artefact 2641 and Artefact 2642 are for the 6th (Quorn) Battalion. This battalion was based in Melton Mowbray and named after the hunt, so it was not actually associated with our village. The Quorn village men belonged to the Charnwood Battalion as No. 13 Platoon.

Later in the war Eric served in the Orkney Isles on anti-aircraft radar. In 1946, still in the army, he was sent to Palestine where he did another two years and then finished his military service.

Eric’s son Jeff kindly supplied this image of Eric’s certificate, confirming his Home Guard service. He also supplied two fascinating Home Guard magazines.
