General William Booth in Quorn 1905

General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, driving through Quorn Cross on his way to Loughborough as part of his tour of Britain in August 1905. The White Horse and the Royal Oak can be seen on either side of the road, with Brook House in the background (rear rght)

The close up clearly shows General Booth with his flowing beard, waving to villagers from his distinctive white, London registered De Dion Bouton. The car was kindly identified by the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain.

This unique and special photograph was taken by Richard Tunnecliffe (see Artefact 2614) on 9th August 1905 and is part of a collection that had previously not seen the light of day for over 100 years.
