Buddon Wood – Quorn’s lost jewel

Buddon Wood once covered ¾ of a square mile, but due to quarrying, it is now reduced to a few fringes of remaining woodland. These will be even further depleted if a proposed expansion of the quarry goes ahead. The attached article details the history of Buddon Wood, including wildlife found there from the 1940s to the 1990s. It is brought alive for us by information recorded by the late Peter Gamble and his son Ian.

The article written by Ian Gamble, son of Peter Gamble, appeared in the February 2022 edition of The Quorndon Village Life magazine. It is reproduced here by kind permission of Ian Gamble as the author and photographer and Village Life as the publisher.
