Rural District of Barrow upon Soar - Official Guide

This booklet ‘Rural District of Barrow upon Soar - Official Guide’ was published during the period that Quorn was administratively part of the Rural District of Barrow upon Soar, ie from 1936 to 1974.

The Rural District of Barrow upon Soar was established under the Local Government Act 1894 as a successor to the Barrow Rural Sanitary District, and therefore was also based on the Barrow Poor Law Union. It covered Barrow upon Soar and the surrounding area. It was increased in 1936 by the disbanding of Loughborough Rural District and Quorndon Urban District Council and was eventually abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 which came into effect on 1st April 1974. The area is now part of the Charnwood Borough Council. Quorndon Parish Council, which basically covers the village of Quorn, was created in 1936.

The booklet provides a useful insight into the district in the early 1950’s.
