Quorndon Coronation Variety Concert, February 1953

Although Queen Elizabeth’s coronation didn’t take place until 2nd June 1953, Quorn was obviously gearing up for the celebrations much earlier in the year.

This concert took place on Friday and Saturday, 20th and 21st February. The venue is not known, but was probably the Village Hall, although may have been the Church Rooms. The programme cost 4d (less than 2p)

Many old Quorn names are mentioned:
The producer was [Horace] George Green and the stage manager was Geoffrey Smith.
The concert committee consisted of Mrs M Morrison, Mrs M E Wallis, I S Gaylon, T W Shenton, R Harris, H G Green and G Smith.
Performers: [Ivan] Stanley Gaylon (compere), Jack Field (comedian), Dorothy Selvester (soprano), Reg Harris, Robert Bishop, Pauline Hudson, Frances Lees.
Others were Marjorie Brookman (costumes), Miss M A Sawdon, Mrs Long.

The programme was also trying to get people involved in the main celebrations in June.
