Evacuated to Quorn 1941

In 1941, five year old Jackie Lee (then known as Bessie Pearce) and her sister Heather were evacuated to Quorn from Hove in Sussex, to avoid the dangers of WW2. Unlike many Quorn evacuees, Jackie and Heather did not have a happy experience.

Many years later, Jackie retired to Loughborough to be near her daughter and in 2021 she visited the Community Room of Quorn Old Primary School to look at the new display of heritage boards. Amazingly on the WW2 board she recognised herself and her sister in a photograph of Quorn evacuees!

Jackie then got in touch with Sue Templeman from Quorn Village On-line Museum and told her story, which was published in the Quorndon Magazine in late 2021. The article is reproduced on the attached pdf file.
