Joyce Chamberlain, Alma Terrace, 1940s

This photograph was taken on Alma Terrace off Meeting Street. Alma Terrace was a row of six small two-up-two-down cottages next to 27 Meeting Street (which is next to the Blacksmith's Arms). They had no back doors, only one at the front and this led onto the cobbled walkway you can see in the picture. Across the walkway were the gardens.

On the right is Joyce Chamberlain, with her sisters Jean (on the left) and Janice, the youngest who sadly died aged 12. Their parents were Reginald and Frances Chamberlain and they went on to have three more children; Irene, Philip and Richard.

Alma Terrace was demolished in the early 1960s and the Chamberlain family eventually moved to 24 Unitt Road.
