Renumbering of Properties on Quorn Streets

Over the years several of the older streets in Quorn have been renumbered. This can be extremely confusing when trying track the history of a house, or working out exactly which property a person occupied.

Listed below are some of the streets that are known to have been renumbered. The list is not comprehensive, as it has only been added to as relevant information has come to light in the course of other research. More dates and details will be added as further information emerges. Perhaps you can help!

Barrow Road
The odd side was renumbered between 1939 and 1945, and, for example, no 35 (Meadow View), became no 83. See notes on the 1938 Electoral Roll .

Chaveney Road
Renumbered twice, once between 1938 and 1939 and again between 1953 and 1956.

Farnham Street
Most odd numbers moved by 4 when a new no 1 and no 3 were built between 1947 and 1953, eg no 5 became no 9.
Even numbers – Numbers 2 and 4 have always stayed the same. The ‘new’ houses built on the old allotment land in the 1920s/1930s were originally 6 to 12, but became 40 to 46 between 1971 and 1997.

Loughborough Road
Odd numbers renumbered between 1938 electoral roll and 1939 register.
See notes on the 1938 Electoral Roll .
Even numbers not yet checked.

Mansfield Street
Renumbered between 1938 and 1939.
Later even numbers moved by 12, eg no 22 became 34, but more research needed.

Meeting Street – Renumbered in 1951.
Odd numbers: Eg 29 Meeting Street was re-numbered and became number 69.
Even numbers: Eg No 14 became 94
See notes on the 1947 Electoral Roll .

Soar Road
Renumbered between 1961 and 1967. See notes on the 1953 Electoral Roll .

Station Road
Was renumbered in the 1960s
Most even numbers moved by 10, then 66 (previously 54a), meant that ones after that moved by 12.
See notes on the 1953 Electoral Roll .

Wood Lane
The old Wright’s cottages (even numbers) have moved by 10, eg old no 10 is now no 20. Happened between 1961 and 1967.
