Mrs Sophia Perry-Herrick

Mrs Perry-Herrick was the owner of Beaumanor Hall and its surrounding estate in Woodhouse. She was born Sophia Christie in Chelsea in 1832 and married William Perry-Herrick in 1862 when he was 68 years old and she was 30. He died after a fall from a hunting accident in 1876.

Sophia lived on for nearly forty years managing the estate and proclaiming her strong dislike for public houses and alcohol. She was strictly teetotal and would not allow public houses on her land. Mrs Perry Herrick was an influential figure in the Quorn area, she was well liked and respected by local people and maintained a keen interest in village affairs.

She eventually died in 1915 and the estate passed out of Herrick hands.
