Home Farm and the Pepper Family

Life in Quorn was very different in the 1900s, with many more farms in the village. One of these was Home Farm on Soar Road, originally the home farm for Quorn House. From 1932 Home Farm was run by the Pepper family. Cecil Pepper had fought in WW1and married his wife Eva in 1922. The couple had three children; Adeline, Bryan and Norman.

Farming was much more labour intensive than it is today, and at harvest time the local lads would all pitch in and help. The two sepia photographs were taken in in the stack yard of home Farm (30 Soar Road). George Gartshore was one of these lads and took these photographs on his box camera in the 1940s.
