Quorn Wakes on the Green, 1950s

For many years the annual Quorn Wakes (fair), was held on Quorn Village Green, which is where the carpark is today. This photograph from the 1950s was taken looking over the stalls, towards 4 Station Road.

Wakes week was originally to commemorate the feast of St Bartholomew. This is 24th August, but when the calendar was adjusted by 11 days in 1752, the change was ignored for the purposes of the celebrations, and Quorn Wakes week moved to the beginning of September.
