Tommy Allen 1911 to 1996

Thomas William Allen was born on 30th April 1911 at 46 Meeting Street and lived in Quorn all his life. He followed his father (also Thomas) by running a milk round, and eventually he and his wife Dorothy Elizabeth Allen, took over the family shop at 46 Station Road where he had been born. The shop sold sweets, cigarettes and eggs. Tommy died in 1996, aged 85.

In 1985 Tommy was interviewed by Colin Hyde from the University of Leicester as part of the East Midlands Oral History Archive project. The interview gives a fascinating insight into many aspects of Quorn life.

The photographs of Tommy and his shop (where he continued to live after he had retired), were taken by Harry Limbert in the 1990s.
