Sampler – Rosanna Goulding, Quorndon, 1884

This article appeared in the spring edition of The Quorndon magazine in 2015. It tells the story behind a sampler, intricately stitched by Rosanna Goulding, from Quorn, when she was in the Muller Homes Orphanage in Bristol in the 1880s. The pdf document includes a picture of the sampler, but a better quality image can be seen in Artefact 1879.

In the attached article, read not only about Rosanna and her family, but also how the research gradually revealed a story that involved the fortunes of four orphaned children, a scandal involving the headmaster of Quorn Primary School - and even brought to light a long forgotten murder.
