Arthur and Marie Wheldon - Wright's Commanders Carnival Band

Arthur Wheldon was the band leader with Wright's Commanders Carnival Band, and his wife Marie played the kazoo. This photograph shows them standing in the front porch of their house, number 5 Cradock Drive in Quorn.

Arthur worked at Wrights as a foreman dyer, from 1935 until 1941, when he joined the R.A.F. The couple had moved to Quorn from Long Eaton, where Arthur had been working at Clutsom and Kemp, another elastic web manufacturer. He had also been the bandmaster of their band!

Sadly, Marie died in 1956 aged only 45. Arthur died in 1989.
