Quorn Census - 1821

The census process that we have today started in 1801 when local officials were asked to provide information on the number of inhabited and uninhabited houses in the parish, and how many families occupied them. A similar ‘total household’ format was used in 1811,1821 and 1831, with the addition of a few extra questions. Although the statistics have often survived, most of the original recording details have not.

Quorn is fortunate to have details from the 1821 census. The information is limited to one line per household and the Street is not named, but the name of the head of the household, number of members of the household and their ages are recorded.

This census was taken on Monday May 28th 1821 by a member of the Quorn Vestry Meetings, W H Inglesant.
