Funeral of Mr J.A.G. Farnham - 1930

In the Farnham Chantry, on the south side of St Bartholomew's Church, Quorn, where since the Middle Ages the succeeding generations of the family have been laid to rest, the ashes of Mr John Adrian George Farnham, who died on Wednesday last, and was cremated at Golders Green on Saturday, were deposited on Monday afternoon.
The principal mourners were Mrs J.A.G. Farnham, Mrs W.E. Farnham, Mr G.F. Farnham, Mr R. Cradock Hartopp, and Mrs Powell, and the little chapel was bright with wreaths, which added to the beauties of colour and sculpture with which it abounds. The service was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. H.H. Rumsey, and was fully choral, the choir attending and singing the hymns, "For all the saints", "Peace, perfect peace," and "O God our help," and also the 23rd Psalm.
It having been found impracticable to use the organ, a small harmonium was taken into the chapel which was played by the organist (Miss C. Callis). After the last hymn the service was concluded outside the chapel, where the family vault had been opened, and a marble casket, containing the ashes was deposited therein, the latter part of the service being said in the presence of a considerable concourse of people. Wreaths were sent by Mrs J.A. Farnham and her children; Mrs W.E.B. Farnham; Miss Farnham; Mr G. F. Farnham; the indoor and outdoor servants of The Heights, Witley; the Witley Motor Cycle Club; Mrs G White and family; Mr and Mrs G. Keith Thomson; Mr and Mrs Palmer and Mr Chas. Palmer; "Nannie"; Mr and Mrs Jones; Audrey and Collis; Ronald Cradock Hartopp; Mr and Mrs Philip Scratchley; Lily Powell; Mr and Mrs Binnington and family; Dr and Mrs C. W. Booker; Mr and Mrs Crispin.
Mr Farnham, who was 40 years of age, leaves three young children.
