Sale of building land, 11th April 1825, Sarson Street, Barrow Road, Loughborough Road, Castledine Street
These sale details relate to the sale of building land in Quorn, at the Bulls Head (on High Street), on 11th April 1825. They refer to an area bordered by Sarson Street, Barrow Road and Loughborough Road. Castledine Street is shown - still to be named - but beyond that, it says "Proposed arrangement subject to future decision".
The front of the particulars state:
"To be sold by auction by Mr B Payne at the Bulls Head Inn in Quorndon on Monday the 11th day of April 1825 at three o'clock in the afternoon.
About 30 thousand square yards of building ground in lots, with extensive frontages to the Leicester Turnpike Road and the Road leading therefrom to Barrow-upon-Soar; the greatest part of which is in the occupation of Mr Cross, and the remainder used for Gardens."
It can be seen from the plan, that the frontage between Barrow Road and Sarson Street was split into seven plots. These would average about 15/16 metres (50 feet), with the end ones being slightly wider. They could be used in different ways, and (for instance), the four small cottages on Loughborough Road near Sarson Street (now numbers 7, 9,11 and 13), were built on one plot.
This document was found in notes and papers previously belonging to George Francis Farnham in the early 1900s.
