Holmes/Hill family connections

George Holmes was the step grandfather of Pete Johnson, who kindly lent the museum team his family photographs and documents. Fortunately several members of the family had been far sighted enough to write on the backs of many of the photographs, although some texts were a little cryptic, and referred to relationships rather than full names. By carrying out just a small amount of research on census returns and birth/marriage/death indexes, it was possible to produce the relevant sections of the family tree and relate the photographs to it.

This document centres around George Holmes (born 1896), who married Emily Steer (nee Webster) in 1928. George's mother and father were George and Georgina Holmes (nee Hill). Most of the photographs relate to Georgina's relations, although there are two of her husband's sisters.
