Presentation to Mrs Elsie Kendrick of Quorn

The Quorn women’s branch of the Conservative Association held its annual meeting recently. Officers elected for 1977: president Mrs B Whyte, chairman Mrs F Treasure, secretary Mrs I Bramwell, treasurer Mrs D Thompson, minutes secretary Mrs J Priest. Committee: Mesdames Brookman, Belton, Burton, Kendrick, Orton, Smith, Faulkner and Miss Pochin and Miss Fenshaw.

The speaker was Wing Commander Smith-Carington who spoke about his work as director of the Leicester branch of the British Red Cross.

Presentation
An item on the agenda was a presentation to one of the committee, Mrs Elsie Kendrick of Loughborough Road, Quorn, to mark her outstanding record of service to the Conservative Party.

She has been a member for 67 years, having joined the Quorn Women’s Branch at its inception in 1910. She has been an active member of the committee for 54 years, 20 of which as secretary.

A congratulatory letter from Margaret Thatcher was read and she was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Mrs sally Smith, the youngest committee member.

Note: Elsie Kendrick was the youngest daughter of Thomas and Finette Webster, bakers on High Street, Quorn.
