Sale of Woodview - 1922

Now known as No 82 Leicester Road, Woodview was a substantial residence in 1922 with large grounds. The sales particulars below give us a rare insight as to how the interior of a middle class house at this time must have looked:

All that well-built desirable double-fronted detached residence known as "Woodview", and situate Leicester Road, Quorn.
The House contains Drawing-room with bay window, with slow combustion grate and mahogany mantelpiece; large Dining-room, with slow combustion fire grate and white marble mantelpiece; Hall Entrance, with Minton tiled floor; large Kitchen, fitted with cooking range with tiled back and cupboards, Porch back entrance, glazed; Back Kitchen, with h. and c. water over sink and soft water; Dairy, China Closet, good dry Cellar, Three Bedrooms; Bath-room, fitted with h. and c. water, lavatory basin with h. and c. water, and drying cupboards, separate w.c., and two well-lighted Attics.
There is a very large walled-in garden, extending to the River Soar, well cultivated, and stocked with choice top and bottom fruit trees.
Together with field adjoining the latter, containing 1 acre or thereabouts; piggeries, wood-built and tiled cow shed and fowl house.
There is also a span roofed greenhouse, 13ft by 12ft., on a brick wall, fitted with Messenger's boiler and hot water pipes, patent window opener and staging. There is a draw-in gateway, large yard and small yard at the back of the house, paved blue brick.
The property stands well back from the road with palisaded front on dwarf wall, and has a frontage to the Leicester Road of 40 feet (including gateway), and also an extensive river frontage to the Soar.
The principal rooms in the house are well fitted with picture rails, gas and town water are laid on, and the interior and exterior of the house are in good state of repair. The house is pleasantly situated, the grounds and garden are nicely laid out, and, with the field adjoining, forms a very desirable residence.
