Quorn Methodist Fete - 1973

Quorn Methodist Church annual garden fete held on Saturday at The Limes, Leicester Road, Quorn, was attended by more than 200 people and raised £103 for the church funds.
The fete, which was originally planned to be opened by Mr and Mrs Anthony Stewart, was opened by Dr David Cockrell, a local preacher after Mr Stewart, the organising secretary of the Leicestershire Community Council, was unable to attend.
Highlights of the afternoon's activities were a fancy dress parade won by Christine Jolland and Mark Chappell, the crowning of Angela Bowler (five) as the fete queen and a display by the Loughborough Boys' Brigade Band.
A tug-of-war competition was held in the grounds of the Limes, the home of Mr and Mrs C Gamble, and was won by the Quorn Mills Park Tennis Club team.
The day's activities were brought to a close with a country dance that was held in the evening at the village hall, Quorn.
Grahame Butcher (far right, back row with the Australian hat and swagger bag) was aged 8. He told the museum team that his family used to go to the church fete every year, and they would normally have their photograph taken by Sid Hall, who Grahame's mother used to work with at the Loughborough Echo. Grahame's mother was Muriel Butcher (nee Pittam), and her parents were Elsie and Horace Pittam, who lived at 22 Barrow Road.
