Quorn Garden Party – 1963
Loughborough Echo – 1st June 1963
Quorn Garden Party
Many thought the Church Room Committee were risking too much to stage a garden party on Whit-Saturday, but their decision brought just rewards, the effort realising nearly £94 to augment their Extension Fund.
The event was held in blazing sun on the Vicarage lawn and was opened by the Rev Stephen Rumsey, vicar of Whetstone, the son of a former vicar of Quorn, and it was significant that the eldest daughter of the present vicar of Quorn, Charlotte Jackson, should present him with a bouquet for his wife, who was unable to be present.
The various sections of the church organised and manned the many stalls, and there was a colourful interlude when many small children took part in a fancy dress parade, which was judged by Mrs Marshall, Miss L Facer and Mr John Beardsley. The winners were Paul Camp, Rebecca Jackson and Bromwin Jackson.
Square dance demonstrations were presented by the YPF and miniature beetle drive winners were Alice Freshwater, Bromwin Jackson, Richard Tebbutt and Roger Speed.
The competitions were organised by Mrs Adkins (chicken supper), Tony Scott (cake) and Miss Starling (necklace).
