Quorn's Temperance Society - 1873
The Loughborough Advertiser - November 27th 1873
On Wednesday evening, the 19th inst., the usual fortnightly meeting of the above society was held in the Primitive Methodist Chapel, Mr W Holmes in the chair, and after a few remarks from him, Mr Walker , of Leicester, and Messrs Will and Bradford address the meeting in an eloquent and stirring manner; and a reading was also given by Master Cuffling. The help of Messrs Walker and Wills was very opportune, inasmuch as some Loughborough friends who were expected to address the meeting, failed to attend.
Several melodies were sung by the members of the Band of Hope, and the audience, which was larger than usual, appeared to thoroughly relish the evening’s proceedings. The society is steadily swelling and it is hope that it may ere long be a stern reality that Quorndon is a teetotal village, and that the drink may be exiled for ever.
(nb: a vain hope when in 2012 Quorn still sports at least seven drinking establishments!)
