Inside St Bartholomew's Primary School, 1958

This rare photograph of the inside of the old St Bartholomew's Primary School on School Lane was taken in 1958. The class is thought to be J3.

Mary Clarke (nee Thompson) who supplied the photograph is on the fifth row back, just to the right of centre.
On the second row second left is Susan Draper.

The large partition doors at the back of the room separated classes J3 and J4. The doors were opened for assembly and closed again for lessons.

During the 1950s the school did not have capacity for all its pupils and Allen House on Meeting Street was used as an overflow classroom.
