Dramatic entertainment - 1914

Loughborough Herald - 22nd January 1914

Amateur dramatic performances were given at Quorn Village Hall on Friday and Saturday in aid of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The programme included two pieces, played by amateurs, nearly all of whom were Quorn residents. The first was the farce, "My Lord in Livery," the characters in which were sustained by Mrs Ernest Tyler, Miss Grace Firr, Miss Olive Clarke, Messrs H J Chilton, F E Hickes, Frank White, and Master Stanley Hickes. The piece, the humour of which turns on the old device of mistaken identity, was, on the whole, very well don, though perhaps the acting was inclined to be more restrained than was necessary.

The second part of the programme was a musical comedy, "Three Tenants", by Gilbert A'Becket, the music by T German Reed. In this the parts were taken by Miss Grace Firr, Miss Evelyn Firr, Messrs F E Hickes, Keith Kilby, and Dr Strachan. The last named in the part of a Scotch servant was capital, and the other roles were very creditably performed. The music was well sung, and the comedy went with excellent spirit. During the evening pianoforte duets were played by Mrs Clarke and Mr Hilary Clarke.
