Leicester Road - then and now

The older photograph shows a parade on Leicester road in about 1910. It is thought to be the same parade as in Artefact 424.

The house set back from the road is now number 82, which at that time was called ‘Woodview’. The house on the left (no 80) was known as ‘The Mount’. In 1911 the house was occupied by the Hickling family. The two older boys standing in the front garden, could well be Matthew and Robert Hickling who were 17 and 15 (in 1911). Matthew later joined the Leicestershire Yeomanry and died at Ypres, Belgium in 1915.
