Quorn Angling Society

Loughborough Echo - 11th April 1958

At the first annual meeting of the newly-formed Quorn Angling Society, held at the headquarters, the White Hart Hotel, Mr W Bosomworth, who presided, said it was a great credit to the village that the club, in its first year, had nearly 100 members and the sum of £130 in hand. Mr Bosomworth added that Quorn deserved to be better known in angling circles.

Mr R Steele (secretary) thanked the committee, saying that without their hard work it would have been impossible for the society to achieve what it had. Three more trophies were to be presented, making a total of six to be fished for next season, and arrangements were to be made for a juveniles' match.

A substantial supper was laid on by Mrs G Stone to end an enjoyable evening. Officers elected: President: Mr G A Stone; secretary, Mr R W Steele; auditors, Mr T Pilkington and Mr G H Mills; committee, Messrs E Chell, S Smith, L Dowman, O Jeffcott, F Hall, C E Walton, I Phillips, W Pervin and E Marlow.

Mr G A Stone, the president presented the cups to the following winners: Annual Cup, Mr F Pine; Aggregate Cup, Mr F Hall; Winter Cup, Mr F Hall.

People identified so far are: Fred Pine (sitting on the floor), Front row second from left - Ernie Chell, middle row far left - Bill Pervin and next to him, Bob Steele
