Ballet Honours for the girls of St Bart's
Loughborough Monitor - 11th July 1975
Ballet Honours for the girls of St Bart's
Mother's arm take the place of the practice bar for Alison Lovett, of Quorn, who has just succeeded in gaining a chance to compete for a scholarship examination set by the British Ballet Organisation.
Fifteen pupils from Quorn St Bartholomew's Primary School have all gained honours in examinations set by the British Ballet Organisation. The pupils, aged between five and eleven, have all been taking weekly ballet lessons under the supervision of Mrs Margaret Lovett, an ex-dancer with the Marie Bici Company.
Mrs Lovett's 11-year-old daughter, Alison, has also distinguished herself by gaining an invitation to sit for a scholarship examination in Birmingham. Alison, who has been dancing since she was two, eventually hopes to join the Royal Ballet Corps, as a professional dancer. If she wins the scholarship she will be entitled to further ballet training.
Those who gained the awards in the preliminary section are Suzanne Horton (5), Clare Renardson (6), Victoria Gibson (5), Alison Wilson (6), Julie Kinch (8) and Nicola Foulds (11).
Grade 1 awards went to Natalie Hague (10), Jane Fussell (10), Lorraine Ward (9), Nicola Foulds (11), Helen Stirling (8), Alyson Fletcher (8), and Paula Brown (9).
June Whitworth (10) gained a Grade II award and Alison Lovett (11) Grade IV, qualifying her for a chance to gain the British Ballet Organisation's scholarship
