Messrs M Wright and Sons Ltd - £1,600 towards a “Spitfire”
Loughborough Echo - 7th March 1941
Letter from Lord Beaverbrook
The management and employees of Messrs M Wright and Sons, Ltd., of Quorn, and their branches at Loughborough, Long Eaton and Measham collected the sum of £1,600 towards the purchase of a “Spitfire”. The money was raised by collections and the organisation of dances, etc. The following letter, signed by Lord Beaverbrook, has been received by Mr Sydney J Wright:
“I am most grateful to you for the gift you have sent me from the management and employees of your Quorn, Loughborough and Long Eaton factories. By this gift they increase the debt of gratitude we owe them. And they bring proof of their determination to do and give their all that we may attain final victory. Will you please accept this expression of my warmest thanks.”
In addition to the above fund, the employees of Messrs. M Wright & Sons, Ltd., have been running a Soldiers’ Welfare Fund since the beginning of the war, whereby every employee who leaves the firs to join His Majesty’s Forces, received a postal order for 10/- every month. This is maintained by voluntary collection among the employees and administered by the committee of the Quorn Mills Benevolent Fund.
