Quorn 'Friends' £1,466 gifts in seven years - 1959

Loughborough Monitor - 20th March 1959

Quorn's interest in and generosity towards Markfield Sanatorium was indicated at the annual meeting of Quorn Friends of Markfield, presided over by Mr H J Lacey in the Village Hall. Mr L F Prevost (treasurer) revealed that the branch, since its inception in 1952, had raised £1,466 to help patients and ex-patients.

Income for the year amounted to £330, which included the darts league gift of £75, and approximately £230 had been distributed in the form of electric razors, armchairs (the Darts League effort) and the usual Christmas gifts. The sum of £80 had been earmarked for a further TV/radio set which is shortly to be presented, and a working balance of £86 was carried over.

Mr Prevost pointed out that of the £1,466 raised over the years, £794 had been spent on sanatorium needs, £397 in Christmas gifts, £73 in benevolence, and £118 in working expenses. Plans were put in hand for the annual carnival day on June 6th, and the hope was expressed that arrangements would be made to repeat the six-a-side football competition that was inaugurated last year.

The following officers and committee were elected: Chairman, Mr J H Lacey; vice-chairman, Mr Don Stirling; hon secretaries, Miss Nancy Lacey and Miss Dora Harris; hon treasurer, Mr L F Prevost; Committee: Mesdames G Allen, J Bonshor, G Stokes, F Blackshaw, Misses C Stevenson and J Hawthorne and Messrs J Field, W Swinfield, T W Shenton, D Commons, L Griffin and A Smith, and three representatives of the Darts League. Hon auditor, Mr A Thornton.
