Bunney - a fine record - 1916

Mr and Mrs E Bunney of Meeting-street, have five sons serving in the Army. All of them voluntarily enlisted and are now in various parts of the Empire. The latest to join up is their son Frank, who for some three years has been scoutmaster of the Mountsorrel Troop, which has become one of the most efficient troops in the district. Over twenty of its past members are now in the Army, and all of them have done well. Frank Bunney attested some months ago, but in consideration of the work he had done with the Scouts, and the fact that he was the only son left at home to assist his father in the business of plumber and decorator, he was exempted by the local tribunal. The other sons are Trooper George Bunney, aged 34, married, of the Australian Light Horse, who emigrated some eight years ago and was following the business of a farmer in Western Australia; Trooper Archie Bunney, aged 32, married with two children, also of the Australian Light Horse, who emigrated six years ago; Trooper Preston W Bunney, aged 28, married with two children, who formerly resided at Paget's-road, Leicester and enlisted in the Leicestershire Yeomanry in March last: and the youngest, Bert, who is 21 years of age, and enlisted in the Leicestershire Yeomanry in October 1915. He is now in England. He has been successful in gaining a stripe, and has also won a medal for signalling in the Battalion competitions, and is reserve signaller for his regiment.
