Fire at the White Hart - 1782

Morning Herald - December 1782

We are fortunate to have found this very old newspaper cutting giving details of a fire which occured in the White Hart. The transcript reads:

"Derby, Dec. 19. Thursday night between the hours of ten and eleven o'clock, fire broke out in the stables belonging to the White Hart inn, at Quorndon, near Loughborough, which raged with such fury, that in a short time the whole were entirely consumed, with a stack(?) of hay and several valuable horses, the property of different gentlemen belonging to Mr Meynell's hunt. The fire was occasioned by a lighted candle falling among some straw, while several boys were engaged in supping up the horses."
