Quorndon to Quorn - the Name Change
Derby Mercury - January 1890
In 1889 Mr George White, on behalf of Quorndon Local Board wrote to the Post office to request that Quorndon's name be change to Quorn. This extract from the Derby Mercury shows acceptance of the Post Office for the name 'Quorn' to be used instead of 'Quorndon' to avoid perpetuating the confusion with the village of Quarndon in Derbyshire, which is spelt differently but pronounced the same.
Both Quorn and Quorndon are valid and both are used today. For more details see 'The name change'.
