Singular Announcement 1840
Preston Chronicle - 10th October 1840
On Tuesday last, the good folks of Quorndon were amused by the appearance of a boy not more than ten years of age who paraded the streets with a bill and occasionally made the following curious announcement, which he did with the greatest gravity and in the peculiar dialect of the locality:-
"This is to gey notice. Ony body as trusses har Felix mun luke to him for the money, as my father can't pay." (This is to give notice. Anybody who trusts our Felix must look to him for the money as my father can't pay)
The boy was the son of an obscure porter of the village, but is supposed to have considered himself sufficiently well known to render it unnecessary for him to announce his brother's name.
