Beekeepers' 25th Anniversary at One Ash, Quorn

On Saturday, upwards of 160 enthusiastic beekeepers and their friends went to "One Ash", Quorn, the residence of Mr and Mrs Charles Deeming. Members of the Leicestershire and Rutland Beekeepers' Association have been meeting at "One Ash" for 25 years and the occasion was celebrated with the presentation of a handsome framed certificate acknowledging Mr Deeming's support of the Association. The certificate stated:
"For the past twenty-five years this association has been privileged to accept the invitation of its president, Charles K Deeming and his wife to meet at their lovely home "One Ash" to see and hear excellent demonstrations and lectures, and to partake in discussions in the ideal surroundings of their beautiful gardens, coupled with the hospitality so lavishly provided. On this twenty-fifth open day, the members of the Association wish to pay tribute to the encouragement their president has given to their craft, and to place on record their very sincere appreciation of his generosity".
The presentation to Mr Deeming was made by Mr Harold Heath of Leicester, who had been secretary of the Association for many years.
During the afternoon Mr Gardner of Northampton gave a demonstration of "opening up bees" at one of Mr Deeming's colonies. Lectures were given and a happy social time enjoyed.
It is interesting to note that Mr Deeming started with bees at the age of 10 and that was 72 years ago!
