Fatal accident at Quorndon -1861
Derby Mercury - 21st August 1861
On Saturday, two youths, aged respectively 16 and 17 years, were sent to a sand hole near the Quorn machine-house, about two miles from Loughborough, to cart away some sand for executing repairs at Broombriggs. Whilst filling their cart, a sudden fall of earth buried them completely. A Mr Chapman passing by sometime after, and noticing the accident, gave an alarm, and the lads were got out, but life was then extinct, and had been so, according to the opinion of the surgeon, Mr Wood, some three hours. An inquest was held and a verdict of "Accidental death" was returned by the jury.
