Artwork discovered in Quorn cottage

When decorating some years ago, Phil and Sue Child of Beaconsfield Cottage on Loughborough Road uncovered this unusual and skilled painting of a seascape on their dining room wall painted directly onto the plasterwork. Research into the census returns and house deeds has found that between 1836-1841, a Mr John Boot, a lace manufacturer, and his wife Ann occupied the house with their son John. John's occupation is given as 'artist'.

Could he have been the mystery painter?
